Fire outbreak razes the Mararaba market yesternight around 8pm in Nasarawa. The market is strategically located in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state was engulfed by the fire. An eye witnesses, Mr. Boniface Ogar said that the fire started around 8pm when most shop owners have closed for the day's business. The Mararaba Market is a business hub that's located around the border town neighbouring Nyanya, Abuja's suburb town.

NYSC to Deploy Doctors, Pharmacists and Nurses to IDP Camps

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to deploy medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical professionals to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps nationwide. The Director General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. Sule Kazaure, made this known Thursday while flagging-off the NYSC intervention programme at Damare IDPs camp in Yola. Kazaure said that the deployment of NYSC to the camps was part of the scheme’s contribution to government’s efforts in assisting the IDPs. “This programme, which is designed to bring succour to the inmates in this centre, is also intended to compliment government’s efforts towards provision of the welfare needs of members of IDPs nationwide." EDUCATION: ASUP(Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics) Issues Stern Warning To FG Over Breech Of Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has warned of impending crisis in Nigerian polytechnics over failure by the Federal Government to abide by the agreement reached with the union. ASUP’s President, Usman Dutse , who briefed newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, said several attempts to discuss the issues with the present government failed. According to him, issues between Federal Government and ASUP have lingered for years. He said that the union was aware that the present government came to power about one year ago, adding, however, that government was a continuum. “Our expectation was that the re-constitution of the Federal Executive Council by Mr President will nip the issues in the bud, considering the quality of the appointees and the magnitude of the problems at hand. “Our hope in this direction is gradually fading away as no concrete step has been taken to address the issues; our attempts to meet government officials and to explain the urgency of the demands have also failed. “However, we are now being pushed to resort to extreme measures in resolving industrial dispute and we shall act accordingly. The last signed agreement between the Federal Government and ASUP made adequate provisions for re-negotiation which had been due since 2012. Government has reneged on this provision and showed unwillingness to renegotiate a new agreement with the union. This attitude has further widened our gap of trust and entrenched mutual suspicion about government’s commitment to promoting technological development in the country."

Federal Government Declares Monday 2nd May a Public Holiday(Workers Day)

General Abdulrahman Danbazau Minister of Interior on behalf of the FG.
